Foods you should stop eating

There are so many foods that can harm our health and we don’t even know about their negative effects.  Knowing what choices to make regarding what to eat can be difficult, but there are some specific foods that we should avoid. They have no health benefits, while posing numerous health risks.

1) White bread, refined flours. These are toxic for your body because they were stripped of vitamins, minerals, fibres and other important nutrients. As a result, the body doesn’t know how to correctly digest and assimilate these types of foods and can cause health problems. Refined white flour is bleached with chlorine and brominated with bromide, two poisonous chemicals accused of causing thyroid and organ damage.

2) Conventional frozen meals. Most of them are full with preservatives, processed salt, hydrogenated oils and other artificial ingredients. Let’s not forget the fact that most frozen meals are pre-cooked, reducing their nutrient content minimal at best.

3) White rice. Here, we have the same situation as for white bread because white rice is also stripped of most of its nutrients and separated from the natural components that give the brown colour. The natural brown rice is absorbed more slowly and does not cause the same boost in blood sugar that white rice does.

 4) Microwave popcorn. Every component of this food, from the genetically-modified corn kernels to the processed salt and preservative chemicals, is unhealthy. Microwave popcorn also contains a chemical called diacetyl that can actually destroy your lungs.

5) Cured meat products with nitrates, nitrites. Meats sold in grocery stores are often full of sodium nitrite and preservatives. The substances used to treat deli meats, summer sausage, hot dogs, bacon, are known to causing heart disease and cancer. If you like meat, try the uncured, nitrite and nitrate-free varieties, from grass-fed animals.

6) Most conventional protein, energy bars. These meal replacements contain processed soy protein, refined sugar, hydrogenated fat, and other harmful additives. Not all of them are bad, but be sure to read the label before purchasing.

7) Margarine. This is hydrogenated trans-fat oil, extremely bad for your health. Try butter and saturated fats because are more healthy, especially if coming from pastured animals fed on grass.

8) Soy milk and soy-based meat substitutes. Despite of all the positive promotion made for soy milk and other soy related products, you might want to reconsider consuming these foods. Nearly all non-organic soy ingredients are genetically modified and most soy additives are processed using a toxic chemical known as hexane, linked to causing birth defects, reproductive problems, and cancer.
